Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members,

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • The PTO for appreciating the staff so wonderfully all week!
  • Abbe Rowlee for sending me beautiful photos for the blog!
  • 2018-19 AfterSchool Committee Members - Jess Seaman, Kristen Hurd, Vanessa Maxham, and Darci Blanchard for their help planning for next year!
  • Chuck Vanderstreet for the flag planting photos!
Other Items of Interest:

Last Day CHANGED- The last day of school has been changed to Thurs., June 14, and it will be a half day.  We had to make-up the day school was closed due to the power outage.  We had originally been advised incorrectly that we did not, so we apologize for any inconvenience.  Both June 13 and 14 will be half-days.

PTO Yard Sale - On Sat., June 2, the RES PTO will be holding a yard sale from 8 - 2 PM.  Please donate gently used items for this sale.  Items can be brought to school Thurs., May 31 after school, and Friday, June 1 during and after school.  Please bring items to the multi-purpose room.  We will be using these funds to help support the after school program next year.

Baked Goods Needed - We plan to sell baked goods and sandwiches at the yard sale as well.  If you'd like to donate items for sale, please send them to school on Friday or drop them off at 9 on Sat.  Every little bit helps!
Lunch Accounts - Please make sure your lunch account is paid up through the end of the year by June 7th.  This makes it easier for Heather to close the foodservice school year out.

Afterschool 2018-2019 - We are planning a M-F after school program for next year!  We need your help to complete the survey that came home Friday or you can download and print it here if you didn't get it!   Please send them in as soon as possible.  A sign-up form for next year will be coming home before the end of the year!

Pre-K Registration - The deadline is this Wed., May 30.   If your child is currently enrolled in our PK program, they must be re-enrolled for next year.

Gr. 6 Celebration - Please join us as we celebrate at 5 PM on Tuesday, June 12, as our 6th graders leave the RES nest and move on to the middle school.  They will spend a half day at the middle school on Wed., June 13.  This year we have moved it to the evening so working parents could make it, but every grade has a role in the ceremony.  Please bring your child to school by 4:45 PM to participate.   Afterwards, the PTO will be providing cupcakes.

District News:
WES FAMILY WELLNESS SERIES
Tuesday, June 5th 5:30-7:00 PM
Susan Mordecai presents “Home Sweet Home”
We hope you will join us for this wonderful family event!  Bring mindfulness home for the summer!  Together we will experience some of the mindfulness practices that your children have learned in the Mindful SELF program that has been supported by the Ottauquechee Health Foundation.   Susan Mordecai will lead the practices that support focused attention, body awareness, and kindness. The skill of mindful communication will be introduced.  The goal is for parents and caregivers to maintain the happiness that most of us strive for.

Students are encouraged to attend, and will participate in some mindfulness practice with Susan, as well as an art project with Caitlin Eastman.  Dinner will follow for all, free of charge, in the WES cafeteria.  Please RSVP to eklocek@wcsu.net with the number of people in your family who plan to attend.  Thanks!

Planning Ahead? - DRAFT 2018-19 School Year Calendar can be found HERE.  Please not start date and school break dates are final at this point.
