Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members,

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:

  • Tatiana for helping prep for the yard sale Friday afternoon!
  • Everyone who donated and also bought things for the yard sale!!
  • All those who donated baked goods for the yard sale!  (Steve A. baked some amazing cookies and hermit bars!)  (Whoever donated the yummy brownies and chocolate cake - thank you!)
Other Items of Interest:

PTO Yard Sale - The yard sale started off a little cloudy and drizzly but by the end of the day it was beautiful!  The PTO made approximately $325. which will go towards the 2018-19 school year after school program!  Many thanks to all who donated, helped, and bought!    Keep cleaning out as we plan to do another one this July!!!

After School Program 2018-19  Fundraiser - Next Saturday, June 8, we will be "hosting" a stop for a statewide bike race.  We need 10-12 volunteers from 1 - 5:30 PM, so please e-mail Cathy Knight at cknight@wcsu.net if you can help.  All our materials are provided, all we need are willing bodies to help!  The company is donating $1,000 towards our after school program for next year, so thanks for volunteering!

Lunch Accounts - Please make sure your lunch account is paid up through the end of the year by June 7th.  This makes it easier for Heather to close the foodservice school year out.

Sunscreen - We have sunscreen at school that can be applied at recess or outdoor recess.  If you do NOT want your child to have sunscreen applied, please send an e-mail to the nurse, Jean Chick, at jchick@wcsu.net.

After School Survey - 2018-2019 - We need your help to complete the survey that came home Friday or you can download and print it here if you didn't get it!   Please send them in as soon as possible.

End of Year Field Trip - Fri., June 8 Gr. K-6 will be heading to Echo Lake for an end-of-year field trip.  I have obtained two lifeguards for this event.  Permission slips are coming home Monday and is attached here.  Thanks to the PTO there is no charge for this event!  Students should have sunscreen, beach towel, a swimsuit, a plastic bag for their wet clothes,  a snack, and lunch.  Parent chaperones are welcome to attend, but please indicate on your child's permission slip if you are attending.  The bus will leave at 9:40 AM and return at 2:05 PM, leaving Echo Lake at 1:50 PM.

2018-19 Grade Level Configurations - I will be sending out a Blackboard Connect message on Wednesday with the 2018-19 classroom configurations after I have met with the staff.  Many thanks to those who have shared their thoughts and creative ideas.  If you have questions, please reach out to me via e-mail and I will be happy to make an appointment to sit down and address any questions you have.

Gr. 6 Celebration - Please join us as we celebrate at 5 PM on Tuesday, June 12, as our 6th graders leave the RES nest and move on to the middle school.  They will spend a half day at the middle school on Wed., June 13.  This year we have moved it to the evening so working parents could make it, but every grade has a role in the ceremony.  Please bring your child to school by 4:45 PM to participate.   Afterwards, the PTO will be providing cupcakes.

WES FAMILY WELLNESS SERIES

Susan Mordecai presents “Home Sweet Home”
We hope you will join us for this wonderful family event!  Bring mindfulness home for the summer!  Together we will experience some of the mindfulness practices that your children have learned in the Mindful SELF program that has been supported by the Ottauquechee Health Foundation.   Susan Mordecai will lead the practices that support focused attention, body awareness, and kindness. The skill of mindful communication will be introduced.  The goal is for parents and caregivers to maintain the happiness that most of us strive for.

Students are encouraged to attend, and will participate in some mindfulness practice with Susan, as well as an art project with Caitlin Eastman.  Dinner will follow for all, free of charge, in the WES cafeteria.  Please RSVP to eklocek@wcsu.net with the number of people in your family who plan to attend.  Thanks!

Field Day - On Tuesday, June 12,  Ms. Grenier will be facilitating an afternoon "field day" for Gr. 3-6 and then for K-2 with Gr. 3-6 students assisting.  Please have your child wear appropriate clothes and shoes on Tuesday so they can participate!
