RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - SUN., OCT. 15, 2017

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members:

What a busy week it's been!  Thursday, the PTO provided yummy pizza, salad, and drinks to families for the Back to School Night!  Families visited classrooms from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. THEN the PTO organized and executed an outstanding "Leaf Peeper's Breakfast" today from 8 - 10:30 AM.  (This blog is late because I was there helping....)  The PTO is a major supporter of many student activities and we really appreciate the hard work and efforts that are expended on our behalf!

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • All the PTO helpers who provided pizza and salad for us Thursday!
  • Kate Allen, Tatiana McCarthy, Jess Seaman, Darcy Blanchard, John Malcolm, Vanessa Maxham, Amy Harkins, Pete Seaman, for baking, cooking, and cleaning during the  breakfast!
  • Students:  Audrey, Calvin, Lilly, Cyrus, and Kelton who helped clean up after the breakfast today.
  • All the families who attended "Back to School Night" and signed up for a conference.
  • All the families who attended the "Leaf Peeper" Breakfast.
Other Items of Interest:

"RES" Pumpkin Raffle - On Wed. the K-2 students will be harvesting the pumpkins they planted in the spring.  Upon returning to school, Gr. 3-4 will help unload them.  Students will be decorating their pumpkins in art and we will have our annual pumpkin raffle on Fri., Oct. 27.  Students will be bringing home raffle tickets this week, please encourage your child to see as many as possible and please send the portion of the sold raffle tickets and  money back to the school in a sealed enveloped with your child's name on it to the office no later than 8 AM on Thurs., Oct. 26.  We will have the drawing on Fri., Oct. 27 during morning meeting at 7:35 AM.  The winners will be able to choose their pumpkins at that time.

Parent Conferences - Teachers will be hosting parent conferences the first two weeks of November after school.  Please contact your child's teacher if you have not already signed up for a conference.

PTO Help - The PTO will be having their annual Pie Sale on Sat., Nov. 16, followed by the 1st annual Chili Cook-Off.  Help is needed from the community and parents to make this happen.  On Fri., Nov. 15, students will be baking pies, and need assistance assembling them.  We start at 2:30 and manage to make over 100 pies for sale.   If you can come in Fri., afternoon and assist the students, please contact Sherry Hatt.

Attendance Letters - It is a district procedure to send letters home to families whose students have more than 10 absences and more than 10 tardies.  If you get a letter this week, please contact us if we can help support your family in anyway.  In general, most students are on time, but just a reminder that students should arrive at 7:30 AM, but can arrive as soon as 7:15 AM.  Thanks for your efforts with this!

Thanksgiving Community Dinner - The annual RES Thanksgiving Community Dinner will occur, Tue., Nov. 21.  Mrs. Knight is the lead contact this year and she could really use some helpers.  A donation list will be posted in the lobby as well as a way to sign up on line if you'd like.  Please contact Sherry Hatt if you'd like to assist with this.

PBIS Celebrations - Every Friday our students celebrate filling the "Respectablewhich is a glass rocket using tiles that their class has accumulated in their small class rockets.  Part of PBIS is having "celebrations" when the students meet certain letters in the "rocket" container.  The RES Student Council met several times and suggested many different ways to celebrate our PBIS success.  We will be celebrating the following ways on FRIDAYS starting this Friday.   Learning continues, even if we are dressed differently.
