RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - Sun., Nov. 11, 2018

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members:

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • The PTO for all their hard work supporting our school!
  • Everyone who has sent in their pie making donations.
  • Those who attended the Board Meeting last Monday at the SU.
Other Items of Interest:

Highlight on the Handbook - The WCUD Family/Student Handbook is full of important information and all principals will be highlighting information in our communications to families.  The family district handbook can be found on our website and hard copies can be obtained from RES.   The topics covered are being discussed in schools district-wide.

COMMUNICATION
We believe consistent school to home communication will support families, students, and staff in reaching a shared goal: a successful school year. Teachers and staff will contact families by phone or email to share information. School notices are emailed regularly; please request a paper copy if you prefer not to receive this information electronically. Most school personnel can be reached at their WCSU email address using the following format: first letter, last name@wcsu.net ex: Jane Doe would be jdoe@wcsu.net

Regular information such as important notices, food menu, and event dates are posted on the school web page. Some teachers also use a classroom blog to communicate. Unless we are otherwise informed, school personnel will afford the same rights to both custodial and non-custodial parents. If your situation limits the rights of the non-custodial parent, please provide the office with a copy of the court order for our files.

Home School Communications

Notes/E-Mails to School

  • Date and sign all notes sent to school.
  • Include your full name, your child’s full name, and their teacher’s name.
  • Permission notes are required from the parent/guardian for:
    • Tardiness
    • Medication
    • Change in bus route or bus stop
    • Planned early dismissal

Change of After School Plans

In order to promote consistency and safety for children, they should know their after-school plans when they arrive at school. On the rare occasion that a change of plans is necessary, please call/email school no later than 1:30 PM to make changes to dismissal plans. The end of the day is a particularly busy time at school, and we can more successfully and accurately communicate changes of plan to your child, the teachers, and supervising staff when given advance notice.

Pie Day - There is a sign up sheet in the lobby for each grade to donate items for the PTO Pie Sale. Please stop by or reach out to Darci Blanchard to find out what is needed.

PBIS Celebrations - Students have really been earning their "respect tiles" lately and so the Student Council wants to remind families about the following days:
  • Wed. - "S" - Slipper Day - Students should wear shoes to school, but can wear slippers all day.
  • Fri. - "P" - Pajama Day - Students can wear pajamas to school but must have on shoes. Students should bring an extra layer for recess as its extremely chilly this week.
Lunch and Snack - Many students that are bringing lunch from home are saying that they are still "hungry" and ask for items from the hot school lunch program which they would be charged for. Snacks are not provided by the school this year. Some students are eating their lunch for snack, and then have nothing for lunch. Perhaps labeling the items snack or lunch so students know what is what. Fresh fruit and vegetables are the most frequently asked for items after they have finished their "bag lunch." The office provides "emergency snacks" to classrooms for those who have no snack, but we ask that parents send in a snack daily if possible. A "grab and go" breakfast can be used as snack, so if its an unusually busy week, that is available for students for $1.85.

News from the PTO - The PTO has been operating without a chair for quite some time now, with a lot of support from officers and volunteers. Unfortunately, however, this is just not sustainable. The decision has been made to dissolve the PTO by the first of the year if there is not a Chair in place. Please consider running, or nominating someone, for this! Your school needs you! If you are interested, or know someone who fits the bill, please email RES.PTO@yahoo.com to nominate.

OTHER WAYS TO HELP READING SCHOOL
  • Turn in Box Tops for school!  Each label is worth 10 cents!
  • Sign up your Price Chopper account so RES gets points!
  • Offer to teach a course in the After School program - share your skills!
BREAKFAST & LUNCH &  MENU FOR NEXT WEEK:

Lunch & Milk Questions - If a child is free and reduced, milk is FREE with either breakfast or lunch.  If a child wants milk by itself, there is a 50 cent charge.  This is a federal government/state rule.  Please let us know if you have questions.  One option is to get the "grab and go breakfast" which is $1.85 and includes milk.
