RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - Sun., Aug. 20, 2017

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members:

I do hope each of you had an amazing summer.  I took 5 graduate courses over the summer so it's been a summer full of learning for me.  Many of the teachers have been in continuously throughout the summer planning and getting their rooms ready for your children!

We are excited to start the school year next Wed., Aug. 30 with your child.  The PTO has graciously agreed to provide breakfast again on the 1st day, so please join us at 7:20 AM on the 1st day!

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • Amy Harkins for her help around the school this summer!
  • All of you who pre-paid and paid off your lunch bills last year!
  • The PTO for hosting our 1st day breakfast!
Other Items of Interest:

Meet & Greet - Please come by this Thursday 5:30 - 6:30 PM, and meet the new staff:
  • Gr. 1/2 - Leticia Denoya
  • PE - Rose Grenier
  • Guidance - Jill Tofferri
  • General Ed. Paraeducator - Joan Nagle
  • Admin. Asst. - Sherry Hatt

Pre-K Orientation - Thurs., Aug. 24, 5:45 - 6:30 PM - Please try and attend and your children are welcome to come as well.

School Year Hours - We are starting a 15 min. earlier this year because we are dismissing 15 min. earlier this year.  This enables students to have a 7 hr. day, with a half hour recess, a half hour lunch, a 10 min. break, and a 45 min. special everyday.  That's five hours of academic core content learning time.   This year our bus will not have middle and high school students on it, which keeps our children isolated from more mature conversation and actions.  Students will be taken to their destination right after school as the bus will not be sitting at Caper Hill for a half hour.  Thank you for your understanding and support of this needed change.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Knight via e-mail or cell 802-779-5577.

Supplies Needed for Preschool - Mrs. Faulkner has asked that any family in the school consider if they have any of the following to donate:
  • Preschool riding toys such as big wheel and cozy coupe, trikes
  • Doll sized accessories--infant seat/car seat, bathtub, stroller
  • Washable bean bag chairs, adult or child sized
School Supplies - There's something magical about shopping for school supplies in August.  I remember going with my family and it created an excitement about the coming school year.  Each class will be creating a small "supply list" <$15. per family for the 2017-18 school year that we'd appreciate you purchasing the first week of school.  It will be in next week's blog at the latest.

Box Tops - We are still collecting BOX TOPS.  Please bring in your supply from the summer and ask your neighbors/family members to collect them for us!

Price Chopper - Please sign up to help our school earn points.  Last year we were able to purchase two "character books and posters" for the school through your points.  Just go to the website and register your card for our school.  Every point helps!
