RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - Sun., April 29, 2018

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members,

It's a great day for soup!  Come to the PTO Soup Dinner 4 -6 PM tonight

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • All of you who have sold raffle tickets for the CSA.
  • Those who made soup for tonight's dinner!
  • Everyone who came to the dinner!
Other Items of Interest:

PTO News - Hard copies of letters and raffle tickets came home this week via backpacks.  Upcoming events:
  • Soup Supper Sun., April 29 - 4-6 PM serving several types of soup, homemade bread, coffee, lemonade, and water.  Adult $8; Child $5; Family $20.
  • CSA Raffle - We are selling the raffle tickets for a CSA share from Sunrise Farm.  $5. each or $25. for 6 tickets.  26 weeks of local, certified-organic vegetables, starting the week of April 30th.  Market style, you choose your veggies every week.  Pick your own flowers, herbs, plus honey, maple syrup, eggs, meats and lots of local produce.  The drawing will be held at school on May 4, 2018.

SBAC Testing - It is that time of year again where our students show the State what amazing learners they are!  The annual SBAC testing begins this week for Gr. 3-6.  Here is the schedule.  Please make sure your child has a good night's sleep, and  breakfast with protein to help them do their best on the test.  There is no studying, just a good mental state and the desire to do their best is all that's needed!  Please try and have your Gr. 3-6 students arrive promptly and avoid appointments during these two weeks during school hours.  Thanks for your help!

School Configuration 2018-19 - The WCUD Board met last week and voted to leave Gr. 6 students here for the 2018-19 school year, but we did lose a teacher.  Ms. Denoya will be teaching at Woodstock Elementary next year which is closer to her home.  As it stands now, the classroom configuration for next year is K/1, 2/3, and 4/5/6.  This will be revisited in JUNE after enrollment numbers and staffing changes are solidified.  We are trying to model for the students the mindfulness strategies we have learned and stay in the present.  I will keep you informed via the blog.

Pre-K Registration - Parents of PK parents, please register your students using the WCUD forms linked here.  All students must register for five days though we understand that they may not attend all five.

RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - SUN., APRIL 8, 2018

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members,

It's still "winter" on the playground so boots and snow pants are still needed!  There is NO blog next Sunday since it will be Spring Break.  The next blog will be published Sun,. April 22, 2018.  I hope your families have a restful and safe spring break!

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • All of you who have sold raffle tickets for the PTO!
  • Those of you who attended the Scott MacLeod talk Thursday evening!
  • Those of you who sent money in for "Jump Rope for Heart!"
Other Items of Interest:

Evacuation Plans - Due to recent national events, school safety is being zeroed in on.  We have all be asked to remind parents of our evacuation procedures.

Should the school ever be "locked down," it's crucial that you know that we will "evacuate" to the Town Hall.  Please don't come to the school, go THERE as that's where we will head.  Due to our road set-up, blocking our tiny entrance would only complicate things further.  We will be in communication via the emergency call system should something occur.

No Parking, Only Letting Out -
  • Please don't park in the fire lane during school hours EXCEPT for letting your child OUT of the car.  If you are walking your child to class, please park in the lot.
Message from Ms. Grenier, PE Teacher:
Our Jump Rope for Heart event was a huge success! Thank you to everyone that participated, donated, and supported our event. The students have improved their jump roping skills and learned to help others. We collected a Grand Total of $1,334.27 for the American Heart Association. Our top fundraiser this year was Noah Coyle with an amazing total of $250, way to to go Noah!
If there are any students that did not turn in their collection envelopes and wanted to, they still can on Tuesday 4/10. I will be sending in the our school's report to the AHA on Tuesday. Thank-you gifts should arrive within 4-6 weeks. Thanks again for your support! - Mrs. Grenier
Guest Speaker - Appearing at Windsor High School, Friday, April 13, 2018.
