RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - Sun., Oct. 8, 2017

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members:

Someone recently said to me, Vermont is the land of layers, and it's certainly true right now here at RES.  It's chilly in the morning, and hot by the afternoon, so it's important that the children dress in layers.  If a student is too hot, too cold, too tired, too hungry,  learning is impacted. Thank you for encouraging your child to dress appropriately for the seasonal weather changes, and that they've had a good night's sleep!

Just a reminder, school is CLOSED tomorrow for the legal holiday of Columbus Day.  We'll see you between 7:15 and 7:30 AM on Tuesday!

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • Vanessa Maxham for helping out with the "Rice Bowl" lunch
  • Tatiana McCarthy for all her work with the RES PTO!
  • All the families who have their students at school on time by 7:30.
Other Items of Interest:

"RES" Back to School Night & Pizza Dinner - This Thursday, Oct. 12, please come meet with your child's teacher and see the work that they've been doing!  The PTO graciously provides a pizza dinner and salad for families at 5 PM!   You'll have time to tour classrooms from 5:30 - 6:30 PM.  These are not parent conferences, though you will be able to sign up for one scheduled in November.  Teachers will have their conference schedules posted at the open house so you can plan ahead.

Leaf Peeper's Breakfast -  The PTO is also sponsoring the annual Leaf Peeper's Breakfast is next Sun., Oct. 15 at RES.  Parents are asked to sign up and send in food donations to help offset the cost for the food.  If you don't come into school, but would like to sign up to bring something, please contact Tatiana McCarthy.

PBIS Celebrations - Every Friday our students celebrate filling the "Respectable" which is a glass rocket using tiles that their class has accumulated in their small class rockets.  Part of PBIS is having "celebrations" when the students meet certain letters in the "rocket" container.  The RES Student Council met several times and suggested many different ways to celebrate our PBIS success.  We will be celebrating the following ways on FRIDAYS starting this Friday.   Learning continues, even if we are dressed differently.
  • R - Recess - Extra 5 min. - Already happened.
  • E - EXTRA recess - Students will have 10* min. extra recess on Friday, Oct. 13.

RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - Sun., Oct., 1, 2017

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members:

Our new superintendent, Mary Beth Banios, visited our school on Wed.  She enjoyed visiting the students and staff in the school, but sadly there were no parents or community members to meet her.  I explained to her that timing is everything and that by 9 AM on most days, families are at work.  We hope to schedule an evening event that is more convenient for parents and community members to visit.  We'll let you know once we have a confirmed date!

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • Pre-K parent volunteers!
  • The 6th grade parents who helped drive to Marsh Billings!

RES PRINCIPAL'S BLOG - ROCKETS REPORT - Sun., Sept. 24, 2017

Dear Reading Elementary "Rockets" Families & Community Members:

This week was a week full of surprises, including an unplanned fire drill which surprised even Mrs. Knight and Mrs. Hatt.  There was a malfunction in the alarm system which set off the alarm.  It was a beautiful day, and we needed to do one in September anyway. The  alarm company came and gave the alarm a check-up and all seems fine now.  We will be having  "lock-down drill" soon.  The State mandates this drills, but its for safety sake that we do them anyway.  Please feel free to call if you ever have any concerns over a drill.  If there is a serious incident, then you would be notified with our emergency alert system.

I hope you'll join us Wed. morning to meet the new Superintendent.  Hope you'll join us!
Kudos and heartfelt thanks to:
  • All of you who have sent your forms back completed!
  • Heather for cooking such yummy meals - we are so lucky to have her here!
  • Mrs. Hatt for helping out with the Reading Runners!
